This dish has a hearty, home, and comforting feeling. The meat becomes so tender and so moist it melts in your mouth. I love to pair this meal with rice or garlic mashed potatos. AND when I'm in the mood to be over board and greedy I'll do both! ;) I knw that sooooo bad. But I always serve a green vegetable no matter what I pair this dish with. Sauteed broccoli is my fav! Sometimes I change up to spinach. Either way this dish is DELICIOUS!!!!!! and I hope u get an opportunity to enjoy!!!
"The steak had the exact taste and texture of salisbury steak, but the sauce needed a bit more flavor. I added a cap-ful of Kitchen Bouquet to the sauce to boost the flavor. Additionally, I found the sauce to lack the thickness of gravy, too runny to call it anything more than Au Jus with mushrooms. I will make this again and "tweek" the recipe to meet my needs. All in all, this is added to my "Favorites" tab."- Food-Freak

In a large bowl, combine beef, 1/4 can mushroom soup, bread crumbs, egg, onions, and steak seasoning. Mix thoroughly and shape into 4 oval patties.
Heat oil and 1 tablespoon butter in large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown patties on both sides and transfer to a plate.
Add remaining butter and white zinfandel/cognac(remove pan from heat when adding the alcohol.) Saute mushrooms for 7 to 8 minutes. Add beef stock and whisk in gravy mix until smooth. Stir in remaining mushroom soup.
Return patties to skillet and spoon gravy over top. Cover pan and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes.
Serve Salisbury Steaks and Mushroom Gravy over hot cooked rice.

TommysGurl 4 months agoExcellent recipe. I added French fried onions instead if chopped onion to avoid chunkiness. This is one of Hubby's new favorites.

Odmayhea11 5 months agoI used chicken stock in place of the cognac, doubled the mushrooms, and used half of a fresh onion. I used 97% lean ground beef and will sear the patties much longer next time because they were fairly pink inside. All in all it was delicious, and I plan to add it to my regular rotation.
donnawhawkins9 5 months agoGreat! Recipe really enjoyed this never thought I can make this on my own til I came across this recipe, highly impressed.
cristinakj 5 months agoI had to double the recipe (growing guys) but aside from using fresh onions, I didn't change a thing. Turned out great although the 'steaks' will fall apart if you're not careful. Served with homemade mashed potatoes. I will definitely make again. Thank you! So simple! Wasn't sure what was meant by 'steak seasoning' so I just added some Worcestershire, A-1, garlic powder and some Cajun blackened steak seasoning.

gwenrothman-roney 7 months agoLoved it! I didn't add the cognac since I don't have any and I didn't want to buy a whole bottle just for a bit, but I can tell you it didn't need it! It was hit! My husband loved it and OMG it was so good!

alvinia 9 months agoflavors were ok but my patties fell apart. I made four patties. I ate one my b.f ate one and I threw the other two away. B.f said it reminded him of baby food. I probably won't make again
Chrispizzacalla 10 months agoPhenomenal! I didn't have cream of mushroom so I used cream of chicken. I used cognac and the knorr brown gravy mix. It was a fantastic dish. Not a big fan of rice so I served it on Texas toast (cause I'm crazy for the white bread). Next time ill make smaller patties for the kids though.
