This is a recipe that goes back awhile in my family. This is a great alternative to gingerbread cookies. They're easier to make, taste great and are fun to decorate.
In measuring sugar, pack solidly in cup. Cream together sugar and butters until well beaten. Add eggs, beat well. Add soda, salt, cream of tartar and vanilla. Add flour. Add additional flour if mixture is too sticky to roll out.
Roll thin and shape with cutters. Place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375°F for 6-10 minutes or until done or just starting to brown. Depending upon how thin the dough is rolled and the size of your cookie cutters, this recipe can make anywhere from 6-12 dozen.
