Here is how to make a Sugary Nut Blend, sometimes called "Swedish Nuts." These are as sweet as candy, but a little salty, too! They are a little healthier than candy, but just as satisfying, and even more filling!
Pour the melted butter into the bottom of a 13 by 9 by 2 inch Pyrex dish, and spread it to cover the bottom. Now, place 2 egg whites in a large mixing bowl, and, with an electric mixer, beat your egg whites until stiff. Add a dash of salt and 1 cup of sugar, and continue beating the egg white mixture until very stiff and shiny. Fold in 1 cup roasted almonds, 1 cup English walnut halves, and 1 cup pecan halves. Mix gently and completely. Spoon the mixture into the melted butter in the Pyrex dish. Smooth it out until it is even. Place in an oven that has been preheated to 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Stir the mixture every 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, the nuts should have absorbed all the butter and sugar mixture, and they should be brown and crisp. Remove them from the oven and let sit until they reach room temperature. If serving as a party dish, place all of the nuts in a nice, appropriate candy dish. If you plan to snack on them occasionally while watching TV, etc., store them in a rubber container with a lid that seals. These will stay fresh for at least a week. I know your are going to love this special treat!!!
