Baking Powder Drop Biscuits For Dutch Oven Preparation

Preheat a #16 Dutch Oven for a hot oven, 450 to 500 degrees. In a bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a bowl, whisk milk and egg. Stir into crumb mixture just until moistened. Drop by heaping spoonfuls 2 in. apart into the dutch oven. Place lid on the oven and place over just a few coals, too many and the biscuts will burn. Cover the lid evenly and completely with coals. Bake hot for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
