Joel likes to take his out a few minutes early, and let them finish cooking on the cookie sheet outside the oven.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a mixing bowl, combine the shortening, brown sugar, malted milk powder, syrup, and vanilla extract; beat for 2 minutes. then Add Egg.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and salt.
Gradually add the two mixtures together, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in chocolate chunks and chips.
Shape dough into 2-inch balls and place 3 inches apart on ungreased baking/cookie sheets.
Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool for 2 minutes before removing to a wire rack.

Joel found this recipe in Taste of Home magazine. It was the Grand Prize Winner of a 13,000-entry cookie collection contest. Joel thought his recipe and the Mrs. Field's cookie recipe were both good until he tried these. Now it's hard for him to choose his favorite.
