Sweet Cherry Kugel

Best cherry kugel. Great for jewish holidays (break the fast etc.) Nice complement to regular cheese kugels most people make.

Original recipe makes 4 Servings
1 can (16 oz)Sweet cherries; dark or light
3 Eggs
8 ounceEgg noodles; cooked and drained
1/4 cupButter
1/4 cupSugar
1 cupSour cream
1 tablespoonLemon juice
1/4 teaspoonNutmeg
1/2 cupAlmonds; chopped and toasted
1/4 cupBread crumbs
1 tablespoonButter; melted
-- Sweet Cherry Sauce --
1 tablespoonLemon juice
Reserved cherry syrup
1 tablespoonCornstarch

Sweet Cherry Kugel Preparation

Preheat 350 degrees, grease 8 or 9 inch square baking dish.

1. Drain and halve cherries, reserving syrup.

2. Toss hot noodles with 1/4c butter.

3. Beat together eggs, sugar, sour cream, lemon juice and nutmeg. Combine with noodles

4. Fold in cherries and almonds.

5. Turn into greased baking dish.

6. Combine bread crumbs with melted butter.

7. Sprinkle over pudding.

8. Bake for 30 minutes.

For sauce:

Combine ingredients and cook on stove til thickened and clear. Srve warm with Kugel. Make 1 cup sauce.

NOTE: NEED TO DOUBLE RECIPE FOR A 9x13 PAN.
