Indian spiced lentils
Clean dal in sieve and pick out discolored lentils and foreign matter. Put dal in large saucepan with water/chicken broth, turmeric, red pepper, and salt. Bring to boil then reduce heat to simmer and cover pan. Let dal simmer for 30 minutes or until the dal is tender.
In a 8-10inch skillet heat the ghee on high until a drop of water splutters. Add onion and cumin seeds and lower heat to medium. Stirring constantly fry the mixture for 7-8 minutes. When dal is boiled add onion mixture and chopped cilantro to Dal mix and simmer uncovered until ready to serve.
