Chili Pie Preparation
Melt butter in a 9 inch skillet or deep pie pan (an oven safe piece of cookeware) - note that I cooked everything and transferred it to a casserole dish
Saute onion until soft.
Stir in garlic and saute for 30-60 seconds - until fragrant.
Remove sausage from casing and cook, breaking up meat, for 10 minutes. Pour off excess grease.
Stir in chili powder, oregano and pepper.
Add ground beef and brown.
Stir in tomato sauce and bring to a simmer.
Remove from heat (transfer to casserole dish, if using one) and sprinkle with cheese.
In a bowl, combine milk, flour, cornmeal, egg and oil. Beat vigorously with egg beater or mixer.
Pour topping over mixture in skillet.
Bake at 425 for 25 minutes or until golden and puffy.
Serve immediately.
