Classic sauce.
In a saucepan, saute the onion in the butter until the onion is translucent.
Stir in the flour.
Cook a few minutes, or until it becomes bubbly and foamy.
Gradually add the milk, whisking slowly.
Bring to a boil, add the seasonings, and let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
Strain the sauce through a fine sieve and use.
Yields 1 1/2 cups.
