We put spinnach leaves and feta on this gyro (and that's tzatziki sauce on the bottom). You can see the grill marks on the flat bread from the Grilled Flatbread recipe I link to. photo by melarky Give a medal for this photo Add photo

This is a great way to make gyros at home. They will be the best gyro you have all year-o!

"I love gyros, but there isn't a really great greek restaurant close to me, so when I found this recipe I had to try it. I had tried a similar recipe where you make a sort of lamb meatloaf and use that for the filling, but it had a weird texture and just wasn't very good. This is the BEST home made gyro recipe I have found. The meat with the spices smells and tastes just how you want a gyro to taste. Try it out, you won't be dissapointed." - melarky

Servings
Original recipe makes 4 Servings
1/2 lbGround Lamb
1/2 lbGround Beef
1 tspDried Oregano; Crushed
1/2 tspGarlic Powder
1/2 tspBlack Ground Pepper
1/4 tspOnion Powder
1/4 tspGround Cumin
1/4 tspSalt

Gyro Burger Patties Preparation

In large bowl, combine oregano, garlic powder, pepper, onion powder, cumin and salt. Add ground lamb and ground beef; mix well. Form into 4 patties, about 3/4-inch thick. Grill over medium coals or broil about 5 minutes on each side or to desired degree of doneness.

Notes

We have also used a patty press in the past, then flash frozen them on a cookie sheet for about 30 minutes, them popped them in a gallon ziplock baggy in the freezer. They cook up great from frozen.

I recommend pairing it (i.e., SIMULTANEOUSLY) with this recipe

I have never tried this particular recipe, but it looks like a good basic one that would work well with the Gyro Burger Patties. Check out the comments in the reviews though, I think their suggestions would make the sauce better (i.e. using greek yogurt, or draining regular yogurt, using lemon instead of vinegar, etc...). - melarky melarky

We always make this grilled flat bread recipe with our gyros, they are so easy and so tastey! - melarky melarky

  • Here are the actual gyro patties cooking. You can also see the grilled flat bread cooking in the back on our George Forman (I think it was too cold outside to grill, they actually cook up really nice on the George Forman grill). photo by melarky melarky
