Butter Cream Decorating Frosting. Great fluffy sweet yet not too sweet frosting. Texture and taste are wonderful. This was handed down from my grandmother who cooked for all the area farmers on sundays. It is excellent for cookies or cakes.
Cream butter and shortening until fluffy. Add vanilla and salt. Beat in sugar. Add milk until desired consistency. Divide accordingly and add desired food coloring for decorating if nesessary.
It is a nice soft frosting. To have the best results for a two layer cake it is helpful to refridgerate or freeze for at least 15 min. after frosting the bottom cake to keep from sliding before adding the top layer cake. With cookies I refrigerate before stacking in containers.
