A flavorful chicken dish named after Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana
This was a copycat recipe I found & modified of the Bourbon Chicken sold in most Chinese take-outs; which rarely use bourbon as a component. It's wonderfully sweet & spicy without being too hot. For kids that don't like hotstuffs, cut down on the pepper flakes!
"Adjusted this 4 serving to 6 servings and made it exactly as directed... was a bit too "soy" flavored for us and not enough sweet. next time, we will adjust to use less soy sauce and a little more apple juice. Next day leftovers were even tastier as the sauce had soaked into the chicken and gave it a "marinated" flavor as opposed to the stronger sauce of the day before. I look forward to further tweeking the recipe, making ahead of time, and freezing large portions for make ahead meals later on. was great served with lumpia rolls and steamed broccoli. :) "- TheRosieButterfly

Top-ranked recipe named "Bourbon Chicken"
Heat oil in a large skillet.
Add chicken pieces and cook until lightly browned.
Add remaining ingredients, heating over medium heat until well blended and dissolved.
Add chicken and bring to a hard boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes uncovered.
Serve over hot rice.
I also like to mix about 1 teaspoon of Sriracha sauce (found in the asian food section of the grocery store) in with the ketchup for additional heat. Do it if you like it spicey!

jsutton02 1 week agoFantastic! Super yummy and easy to make. The whole family loved it and it took no time at all which is even better. I did add an extra clove of garlic and only a 1/2 tsp of pepper flakes, because we love garlic and I thought the other would be too spicy for the small ones. Definitely making again!
talayth 1 week agoGreat recipe! I didn't take the chicken out of the pan, just microwaved it a little and poured it onto the chicken.
Nuclearlamp13 1 week agoIt was a little sweet, but I added a bit more pepper and two shots of whiskey! It was really good!

kirsten_purvis 1 month agoIt was easy and flavorful. Every bite was devoured. I found it a little sweeter than I like. I used dark brown sugar and not light, so I think that may have been it. I will make again and pay more attention to the sugar.

RuthlessMinnie 1 month agoThis was REALLY good! My husband devoured it and praised my cooking abilities all night! Hahaha! It's not like the Bourbon Chicken you get from a Chinese restaurant, it's a little milder in flavor, but I recommend it greatly! It's really easy to make too! I will DEFINITELY be making this again!
fatkidinthewoods 1 month agoQuick, easy, and delicious. I made it with brocoli and carrots over white rice. The whole family loved it.

mlm1079 1 month agoCut the pepper flakes in half...holy hotness! Other than that, it's very good! If you like to have additional sauce on your rice, double up because there's very little extra. The whole family loved it though and we are a family of five picky eaters.

pam_latulippe 1 month agoThis is a great recipe I have made it 3 times since dec 23 we love it with chicken tonight I am trying it with pork thanks Firebryd great recipe
Ezweber 1 month agoQuick, easy, and tasty. I did substitute the apple juice for KY Bourbon. Because I had that on hand, not the apple juice. Ha!
Firebyrd 1 month agoLet me get this straight, Hotdoxy...you added the Asian substitute for salt and thought it would make it SWEET? Then you left out some major ingredients because your husband doesn't like them. 1st lesson: don't cook things that the main ingredients aren't liked by your family. 2nd, don't sub a condiment element for a juice element--EVER!
