1 3/4 cupsall-purpose flour
2 tspbaking powder
1 tspsugar
1/2 tspbaking soda
1/2 tspsalt
1/4 cupbutter
3/4 cupbuttermilk

Buttermilk Biscuits Preparation

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, soda and salt. Stir until well blended. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles very coarse cornmeal. Add the buttermilk and mix until the ingredients just come together.

Do one of the following:

1. Pat out the dough to a 1 inch thickness on a lightly floured board. Cut into 8 biscuits with a 2 inch cutter, or into 8 squares with a knife.

or

2. Pinch the dough into 8 balls.

Bake on a cookie sheet or on seasoned cast iron for 8-10 minutes or until golden.
