Preheat skillet over medium low heat for 2 minutes.
Place 1 slice of bread on a plate. Over that place one slice ham, one slice tomato, and one slice of Swiss cheese. Microwave for 20-30 seconds on high. Place a second slice of bread over the warmed open-faced stack.
Oil or butter pan if desired; I typically dry-fry them. Place sandwich in heated pan for 2 minutes. Flip when the bottom side is lightly brown and cook another couple minutes. Remove when the second side is lightly brown. You may need to adjust cooking times depending on your stove.
Repeat with remaining sandwiches.
