Baked Custard Preparation
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt. Gradually stir in scalded milk. Pour into six 6oz custard cups; sprinkle with nutmeg. Place in a 9x13 pan on oven rack. Pour very hot water into pan within 1/2 inch of tops of cups. Bake until knife inserted 1/2 way between center and edge comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Remove cups from water and serve warm or chilled. Wonderful topped with frozen sugared strawberries.
Caramel Custard: Divide 1/2 cup melted and browned granulated sugar into the bottoms of the cups before adding the custard mix.
