Suggest a better description1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Put the butter in a 2-quart casserole dish. Place in the oven until butter melts.
2. Using pot holders or oven mitts, remove the dish from the oven, add uncooked macaroni and stir to coat. Stir in salt to taste, dry mustard, nutmeg and cheese. Pour the milk over everything and stir gently.
3. Return to the oven. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour. Do not stir the macaroni while it is cooking. Let cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
Per serving: 335 calories; 17g fat; 10g saturated fat; 50mg cholesterol; 15g protein; 31g carbohydrate; 7g sugar; 1g fiber; 300mg sodium; 340mg calcium.
Variations: Add about 1 cup of diced cooked sausage or ham. Double the mustard and use sharp Cheddar for a fuller flavor.
