| 1/4 tsGround nutmeg |
| 1 tsVanilla |
| 2 tsOrange juice |
| 1 tsUnsweetened cocoa powder |
Treats- Applesauce Date Bars Preparation
In bowl, beat butter with sugar; beat in egg and vanilla. In separate bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, cloves and salt; stir in dates. Fold flour mixture into butter mixture alternately with applesauce [use unsweetened applesauce for best flavour.], making 3 additions of dry and 2 of applesauce. Spread in greased 8-inch square cake pan; Bake in 350F 180C oven for 30 minutes or until tester inserted into centre comes out clean. Let cool completely on rack. Topping: In small bowl, whisk together icing sugar and orange juice; drizzle over cake. Cut into bars.
