Original recipe makes 1 Servings
3 Squares chocolate
3 Eggs; well beaten
3/4 cButter
1 1/2 tsBaking soda
1 pnSalt
2 1/4 cFlour; sifted
3/4 cBoiling water or coffee;
1 Square chocolate; melted
2 1/4 cSugar
1 3/4 cButtermilk
1 1/2 -(up to)
1 1/2 tsVanilla

Aunt Lauras Chocolate Cake Preparation

Melt 3 squares chocolate in water. Cool. Combine eggs, sugar, salt and butter. Add chocolate mixture, vanilla, buttermilk and soda. Add flour. Pour into three 8- or 9-inch pans. Bake at 375 about 30 minutes. Cool and ice with Colonnade Icing (see Index). Dribble 1 square chocolate over top and sides.
