Servings
Original recipe makes 12 Servings
1 cupbuttermilk; or yogurt, or sour milk
2 cupsflour; try half whole wheat
1/2 cupsugar
3 teaspoonsbaking soda
5 tablespoonsmargarine or butter
1/2 teaspoonsalt

Tea Biscuits (Drop Scones) Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Sift all dry ingredients together. Cut in the butter. Add the milk or yogurt. This will form a sticky dough, add extra flour if it's too sticky to shape. Roll out and cut with a glass, pat out and cut with a knife, or drop into 12 equal piles (my favourite).

Try adding:

1 cup grated cheese, with garlic and herbs

raisins or currants

using vanilla or strawberry yogurt to make a strawberry shortcake

chocolate chips

nuts

raisins, cranberries, blueberries, or other fruits

chopped apples and cinnamon and nutmeg

lemon zest

maple yogurt and maple syrup instead of sugar
