"I loved this recipe. I wanted to make strawberry shortcake but without a "biscuit-like" cake, so I found this recipe. I was out of vanilla extract(!!!!!) so had to used almond extract, but it was still lucsious and went great with my strawberries and whipped cream. "- dharmag

Let eggs, milk, and butter stand till room temperature. Cream butter, gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans or 13x9 inch cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove layers from pans and cool completely before frosting. Recipe by: Frances Croom Posted to MC-Recipe Digest V1 #924 by "The Crooms"

Buffy1313 1 year agoDid this really call for a Tablespoon on baking powder? I thought it was a typo, especially after checking several other 'cake' recipes! It rose beautifully, however it's sooo dense, I could commit murder with it, it tastes' okay, it looks a little light in color to be 'yellow cake'. Not sure if I'll try again. This was to be the first time I used my professional pans AND made Mr. Picky a cake from scratch, ever! On a more positive note, the cream cheese icing is really yummy! Oh well, maybe I'll try again someday.
