"The best way I can describe this is like a heartier homemade hamburger helper. I used whole grain rotini instead of shells, and made an oopsie by not realizing there are TWO different measurements of broth in this recipe and added too much to the beef/tomato mixture. I just let it cook down some and it turned out fine. Also, the recipe doesn't include an oven temp, so i just put it at the standard 350 degrees and it turned out great! Let me tell you, for anyone saying this is flavorless, change what tomato sauce you use...it's all dependent on the spices in the sauce." - moomasters

Beef Casserole with Creamy Cheese Pasta Preparation

Tips: This is an excellent casserole for children and teenagers. Adults love it too! Substitute ground chicken or veal for beef. Its great to reheat. Make ahead: Prepare up to a day ahead but do not bake until ready to eat. In large nonstick skillet, heat oil; saute garlic and onions for 4 minutes. Add beef and saute until no longer pink, approximately 4 minutes. Add stock and tomato sauce; simmer on low heat for 12 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Set aside. Cook pasta in boiling water according to package instructions or until firm to the bite. Drain and place in baking dish. In medium nonstick saucepan, melt margarine, add flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add stock and milk; simmer on medium heat until slightly thickened, approximately 5 minutes. Add Cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese. Add tomato sauce mixture to pasta. Mix well. Pour cheese sauce over top. Cover and bake for 15 minutes or until hot. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. This was really good! I used ground turkey instead of beef, and added a few tsp of red pepper flakes to the meat and tomato sauce mixture. I only had vegetable stock on hand, and only had cheddar cheese to use for the cheese sauce. Instead of mixing the meat mixture with the pasta and cheese sauce, I mixed the pasta shells with the cheese and spread it in a casserole dish. Then, I topped the pasta with the meat mixture and topped that with a bit of shredded parmesan and cubed mozzerella cheese. I baked it until the mozzerella was just starting to turn brown on top. SOOO GOOD! I will be putting this on my 'make again' list.

Very good, definitely better than the box by far! I seasoned the beef with salt and pepper while browning and used a red onion bc that's all I had.

Mmm - Lovely, comforting homemade Hamburger Helper. I doubled the cheese - and had the boyfriend tell me that any time he doesn't know what he wants for dinner - He wants this!

Pretty good. Seasoned the burger with salt, pepper, and a little onion powder. Added a dash of oregano to the sauce and use more cheese. Kids loved it.

This dish was relatively easy to make and the family loved it. The kids (who are normally kinda picky about eating their dinner) gobbled it right down. The only change I made was that I added chives to the cheese sauce. It was definitely DELICIOUS!!!

This was very disappointing. There was absolutely no flavor.

Without some additional seasoning of our own it was pretty bland. Add a little spice and some corn and we were a happy, heartily fed family!

I added my own seasonings and used this recipe as a base for a wonderfully delicious meal. Those folks who said the recipe was flavorless must lack the ability to cook and season their meals on their own. I'll definitely be making this again!

Really easy and I normally have all these things in the house

Kind of bland. Next time I'll spice it up a bit. Adding more seasonings and probably using a different tomato sauce next time will make it more flavorful. On the side note: very good and easy besides that.

Kid friendly recipe....I didn't have any shells on hand...so I used cheese filled tortellini....the kids loved it and told me 'it belongs in the have again group' My husband and I enjoyed it as well...

It turned out a little on the greasy side for us - possibly because of the ground beef we used. The cheese sauce also didn't seem to have much flavor.

I used salsa instead of the tomato sauce and it was yummy.

Great recipe, all the family loved it. However, I was out of pasta and had already started preparing this dish so I substituted diced potatoes in place of the pasta, turned out great.
