Apples with oatmeal crumble
Heat over to 375 degrees F. Peel apples if desired. Cut apples into quarters. Cut the core and remove seeds from the center of each quarter. Cut each quarter into slices. You will need about 6 cups of apple slices. Spread slices in an ungreased 8 inch square pan, or a 9 inch pie pan. In a medium bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cut in the butter by pulling two table knives through ingredients in opposite directions or toss with fork until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle mixture evenly over apples. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Serve warm with ice cream or half-and-half.
Can substitute 6 cups fresh or frozen blueberries for apples, but thaw and drain first.
Can substitute 6 cups of cut-up fresh rhubarb for apples. Sprinkle 1/2 cup granulated sugar over rhubarb, stir to combine.
Can substitute 6 cups of peaches, but cook less time 25 to 30 minutes.
