Original recipe makes 1 Servings
12 ozGlycerin
1/2 tsBorax powder (99% pure)
16 ozWarm water; (2 c.)
1/2 ozStrong ammonia (28% or
Perfume and color to suit**
1/2 tsParaffin wax; grated
1 1/4 cStearic acid (powder)

Homemade Hand Cream Preparation

**I use 2 teaspoons of perfumed body lotion and 1 to 2 drops of red food color. Put stearic acid, glycerin and wax in a "crock" on low heat, until all is well melted. Then add the 1/2 ounce of ammonia and stir fast with a wooden spoon (this will look a little milky). Have Borax dissolved in warm water; add, stir and immediately start beating (on low speed). Take off stove and beat until it looks like whipped cream. When cool, add perfume and color. Note: Use no metal (plastic measures or glass are fine). I made a recipe years ago that is almost identical to this but had no borax. It's really great for folks with sensitive skin. I cannot find a hand-lotion on the market that I can use. This recipe cleared up my eczema. I want to make it again but can't find the strong amonia. Is 'Crock' a crock pot or other? I used a double boiler because of the paraffin but assume the crock takes care of that.
Thanks!
