No need for icing here- oranges and chocolate combine in this extra-moist syrup-soaked cake. Perfect for picnics or brunches.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9-inch square cake pan with nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Add eggs and beat at medium speed until mixture is light and lemon-colored. Stir in grated orange peel. In a second large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and baking powder. In a small bowl, add 1 tablespoon flour to chocolate chips and mix well. Add flour mixture to the sugar and egg mixture alternately with the buttermilk; mix until a smooth batter forms. Fold in the chocolate chips and pour into prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Meanwhile, combine orange juice and sugar in a small saucepan. Stir and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour boiling hot glaze evenly over cake as soon as it is removed from the oven. Cool thoroughly in pan. Cut into 9 squares to serve.
