Angaya Podi is made from various ayurvedic, siddha related ingredients. It is the special podi given to new-mothers after their child birth. In South India, this powder is made fresh and mixed with rice and ghee and it is given as primary food once every week for the new-mother. This powder has medicinal qualities and believe to relieve all stomach related issues for the mother. Since she is breast feeding her child, this will also prevent the child from getting any stomach related issues. This is one of the main dish in the pathayam food menu.
1. Dry roast each of the ingredient separately, as each ingredient as different temperature tolerance.
2. Let them cool and grind them to fine powder.
3. Adjust spice level and salt as per requirement.
4. Store it in air tight container and make sure it is not handled with wet spoon or hand, so it will last for a long shelf life.
5. It can be had with rice and ghee. I also use it instead of Idli podi for Idlies and dosas.
Make sure you don't use it for more than once a week, because it is believe to increase "thega vuyshnam" (body heat) and will cause constipation, especially for people with piles issue.
