This is another family favorite! My Sisters request this cake on their Birthdays! Very Light and Fluffy!
Prepare Angel Food Cake Mixed as directed on the box or buy 1 angel food cake already made. I think the ones baked at home are much lighter and tastier but if your in a hurry a store bought one will due for some.
The filling is my Whoopie Pie Filling recipe doubled. I like to make a lot. I usually decorate these cakes with some colored filling but I couldn't find my icing bags and tips at the time of making this cake. Decorate anyway you like or leave it white as I did. Ideas are endless! This is a double batch if you are not planning on decorating with extra icing a single batch may be enough!
In a 2 quart sauce pan add milk and flour. Cook on low heat stirring constantly until it becomes like a thick paste. In a mixing bowl beat the sugar, shortening and butter until creamy, add vanilla. Add warm paste to the mixing bowl and beat on high speed for 5 minutes or until the sugar is dissolved and it's nice and fluffy. Then frost the cake or whoopie pies or whatever you are using it for.
