One of our favorite appetizers. Also a great way to get kids to eat asparagus.
Trim the tough ends from the asparagus. Place a pot with water and a steamer basket on the heat and bring to a boil. Add asparagus, cover and steam until just crisp tender, This usually takes 3 minutes but could take a little longer depending on the size of the asparagus. Be careful to not over cook. Remove the asparagus from the steamer and cool it in running cold water or a bowl of ice water. Drain the asparagus and let it dry. Place prosciutto slices on a cutting board and spread each slice with a thin layer of cream cheese. Cut each slice longwise into 3 strips. Wrap each asparagus spear with a strip of the prosciutto, cream cheese side next to the asparagus. Place on a baking sheet. When all spears have been wrapped and placed on the baking sheet spinkle with parmesean cheese. You can make this in advance up to this point, cover and chill for up to a day. When ready to serve preheat the broiler. Broil until cheese is lightly browned and asparagus is heated through. Serve immediately.
