There are a number of ways to cook beans.
My Favorite.
Soak Beans for 8-12 Hrs in water. Rinse thuroghly and rinse again. In fresh water, Bake beans and other ingredients (in cheese cloth) in slow cooker for 4 hrs on high.
Turn slow cooker to low and cook for 8-12 hours. Rinse well and serve.
Or, Put all the ingredients into the slow cooker and cook on the high heat setting until the beans are tender.
Or, cook the beans 2 to 4 hours on high heat setting, then reduce and cook on low heat setting for 8 to 10 hours.
Or, place the beans and water in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on the high heat setting 2 hours. Turn off the cooker and let beans stand 8 to 24 hours. Change the water. Add remaining ingredients, and cook on the low heat setting 8 to 12 hours or until done.
Old-Fashioned Baked Beans because this allows the flavours to blend and offers more of an oven-baked taste.
