Great light, extra high, fluffy biscuits, which require a secret ingredient.
1. Mix and sift dry ingredients. Add shortening and mix with pastry blender. Add milk all at once and stir gently with a fork. Turn out on floured board and knead 5 or 6 times. roll or pat to 1/2" to 3/4" thick. Cut with biscuit cutter.
2. Bake at 475 preheated oven for five minutes. Turn off heat and leave in oven for 5 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
Bakewell Cream is the key ingredient and, unfortunately, only available in grocery stores in Maine and surrounding states and online. This magic leavening agent also works wonders on a wide variety of baked products. A cookbook to show you how is available online.
