Delicious version of au gratin potatoes, a great side dish to a holiday ham
Preheat oven to 350. Coat a shallow 3-qt baking dish with the butter. Combine in a large saucepan, everything else but the cheese. Bring mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then cook and stir until liquid thickens slightly, about 5 mins. Pour this mixture into the prepared dish. Cover with the grated cheese. Bake until top is golden and potatoes are tender--45 mins to an hour.
sHellsKitchen 3y agoOutstanding flavor! Mine came out runny but that could be user error, since I soaked the potato slices in cold water to prevent browning while slicing. You could safely cut back on the liquid to save on calories without sacrificing flavor.

sgrishka 6y agoWonderful dish. With very little butter and half-and-half and milk instead of cream, I was pleasantly surprised. It was simple to make, very creamy and flavorful.
