A great way to make tofu a tasty addition to your diet. Served as the main part of its own dish or included in another dish, the mix of ingredients will make sure your tofu has its own great flavor and meaty texture.
Remove the tofu from the package and drain, then lay the tofu on a pan, bowl or dish with holes. Place a weight on top and let drain for 24 hours.
Slice the tofu into 1/2-inch slices (approx. 2 to 3 oz each), long or short length of the block. Add the tofu to a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place a grill press on top of the tofu or mash with spatula, pan frying until golden brown, about five minutes. Turn and repeat.
Mix all of the ingredients into zip-lock plastic bag, then add the tofu and turn several times until the tofu is fully covered. Cook immediately, or place the bag into the refrigerator for at least eight hours, or overnight, turning occasionally. When removing from the fridge to cook let the sealed bag sit in warm water for a few minutes to raise the core temperature of the marinated tofu before cooking.
When ready to cook, scoop the tofu out of the bag and add to a pan lined with non-stick foil. Add to oven pre-heated to 350 degrees and cook for ten minutes. Switch over to broil and cook for an additional ten minutes or until brown. Sprinkle with additional pepper or other seasoning to taste.
If you are adding tofu to your favorite tofu recipe, like the Bear Cave Spicy Tofu Delight, these ingredients also make for a great marinade. Pan fry the tofu then cut into cubes. Combine all the ingredients, then let sit for 24 hours or more.
The step with the broiler is how the tofu gets a crispy texture. If you just want a firm loaf without the crunch, leave out the broiler step and instead let the tofu bake for a few more minutes.
