This is great if you use a bbq sauce with a little bit of a kick such as some of the Weber sauces. Those also are made with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, which is an item we avoid.
[adw recipe]
Thinly slice the onion and saute it in water or broth. When the onions starts to look clear, add the garlic. After about 5 minutes, add in the peppers and kale. Saute until the peppers are soft. Add some of the barbecue sauce and the seasoning while the peppers are cooking.
Rinse and drain a can of black eyed peas. Add this after the peppers are soft.
Turn off heat and pour barbecue sauce over the mixture. Use enough that it is "saucy". If needed, add a little bit of water too.
Put filling in pitas and serve with a side salad or oven-baked fries.
