in a large skillet, melt the butter on medium heat. toss in the onion, stir to coat evenly. cover and cook for 10 minutes. sprinkle in the sugar and stir well. cover and continue to cook. continue to stir frequently on medium heat for 40 minutes. toss in pine nuts, stir well until onions are golden and gooey and nuts are browning. add in brussels sprouts, stir well, cover and cook for 10 minutes. continue to stir and cook until sprouts are tender, but NOT MUSHY!
