Dissolve 2 teaspoons sugar in 1/2 cup lukewarm water.
Sprinkle yeats over top and allow to stand for 10 min;then stir till well blended. Combine 1/4 cup sugar, salt and lukewarm milk in large bowl.
Stir till sugar is dissolved and mixture is slightly cooled. Add 2 cups flour and beat till smooth. Beat in soft butter, eggs and yeast
mixture. Add enough flour (about 3 1/2 cups) to make a soft dough.
Turn out and knead about 8 min. Cover and let rise till double ( 1 - 1/2 hours).
Make into two loaves, and place in pans.
Let rise (45-60 min).
Brush tops with egg glaze (1 beaten egg and 1/2 cup water).
Bake 375 F for 40-45 min.
Makes 2 loaves
