A classic icing recipe, I was given in cake decorating class
"By itself, I found it a little bland but when I iced the cake it was great! I had lots so I experimented a little: a pinch of salt improved it, almond extract was AWESOME (thanks other poster!!) and adding cocoa powder made a fantastic chocolate icing. It's a really good basic recipe that can easily be customized with other flavours."
Mix together with portable mixer crisco and butter, when blended, mix in vanilla and milk. Add contectioners sugar 1 cup at a time, mix well between each cup.
*To add color it is best to use a paste food coloring.
**To make this icing recipe really white use all crisco and use clear inmatation vanilla.

mogriff1 2 years agoI am changing my previous review rating , this icing deserves 5 stars! It taste just like the bakery buttercream icing that I love so much! This recipe will always be my go to recipe when I want a buttercream icing. Perfect taste, texture and consistency. Easy to follow recipe too. Kudos to the poster!
mogriff1 2 years agoVery good and has great texture for piping! Very thick and the right constancy. It tastes really sweet, but hey buttercream is supposed to be sweet! I made it with the 'Simple White Cake' recipe on Big Oven. Perfect combination!
