Take a boxed cake mix and make it denser and moister. The resulting cake will be able to hold up to fondant covering.
Add cake mix, flour, sugar, and salt to mixer and mix for a few seconds. Add eggs, water, oil, sour cream, and vanilla to mix and blend on low until everything is mixed together. Blend on medium speed for 30 seconds. Grease or line pans. Pour mixture into cake pans or muffin cups. Bake at 325 for appropriate time. Toothpick should come out clean.
