Preheat oven to 400°. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until soft & creamy. Beat in vanilla and egg.
Mix flour and baking powder together and add to creamed mixture. Add in dried cherries or Craisins (can use regular Craisins, or other dried fruit of your choice).
Drop in spoonfuls on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 9-10 minutes or until golden on edges.
