This is a filipino dish that my niece turned me on to and my whole family just LOVES it. I serve it with brown rice.


2 1/2 lbs Chicken thighs
1 Onion; chopped
3 cloves Garlic; minced
1 cup Vinegar
1 1/2 cups Water
1 1/2 cup Soy sauce
2 Bay leaves
Pepper; to taste

Original recipe makes 6



Place all ingredients in a pot and simmer until chicken is tender, about 1 hour. Serve hot over cooked rice. It can also be cooked in a crock pot on low setting all day. this easy recipe can be prepared ahead and it freezes well.

This is a good recipe but I add a tablespoon of brown sugar, green beans, sweet potato, and boiled eggs 30 minutes before its done

i make mine in a crock pot and use the less sodium soy sauce. i also use way more garlic and add green beans, potatos and boiled eggs. After that i add more water to fill the crock pot. SET IT AND FORGET IT.

It's okay! It wasn't a spectacular recipe like my mom's or sister-in-law' was just ALRIGHT. I substituted white vinegar with apple cider vinegar so it wouldn't be so sour and I also used only a cup of soy sauce instead of a cup and a half. I didn't want it to be too salty either. Next time I'll tweak this recipe a little more by frying the chicken a little in the end before serving on the rice.

Wow - this was fabulous! I cut dwn the recipe a little and used bone-in chicken thighs and it only required 40 minutes of stewing. Next time, I'm making a larger recipe and keeping the leftover chicken for a second meal later in the week. My husband loved this!
