"Oh my goodness! This is an excellent recipe! Very easy an tasty. The sauce is so good. I made this recipe exactly following the instructions except that I did not have flank steak; I had sirloin that I needed to use up and I added sesame seeds at the end when I served it."

Preparation

MARINADE:

Whisk together the baking soda, sugar, cornstarch, soy sauce, water, and vegetable oil in a large bowl. Toss in the thin sliced steak and coat with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least a hour.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a small bowl stir together the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, flour, and sherry until smooth then set aside.

In a large pan heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high until shimmering. Add broccoli and saute for 3 minutes, stirring often. Transfer the broccoli over to a plate.

Carefully add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil to the hot pan. Add the marinated meat and half of the marinade's mixture to the pan. Saute for 3-4 minutes stirring often until the meat is done and no longer pink.

Stir back in the broccoli and the rest of the marinade mix and saute for one minute.

Serve over cooked rice.

I just cooked this for dinner. Used beef cubes cause thats what I had. It was great. I used cooking wine and a splash of olive juice. I mixed everything together. It was great.

This recipe must have some mistake, because the 'small bowl' that is mixed in step 2 after the marinade is never used. Perhaps this is the marinade again, and should be removed?

Instead of brocolli i used long bean from my garden. My kids love the sweet flavour plus the meat was tender and easy for them.

This was delicious. After reading other reviews I added mushrooms and egg to bulk it up. Next time I will add water chestnuts as well.
