This was my grandmother recipe, which I have modified over the years. She used to add nutmeg and other ingredients. This is the recipe that my entire family requests every holiday season.
Preheat oven to 300F degrees. Prepare 2 loaf pans with shortening and flour and set aside. Cream together softened butter and sugar, then add eggs and other ingredients one at a time. Batter will be thick. Divide batter 2 and add each half to loaf pans. Bake for 1 hour 30 min in 300 degree oven. Insert toothpick in center, if comes out clean, cakes are done. Let cool, then remove from pans. Can be wrapped with foil or plastic wrap or store in air-tight containers. Enjoy.
