A hearty delicious pie
You can use any traditional store brought crust. However if you would like to make your own please follow these directions for the crust.
Crust: Mix 1.5 Cups of Flour, 5 teaspoon of salt, 4 table spoons of butter, and 1/4 cups of shorting. This will form the dough,
Roll the dough out into a floured surface until its at least 2 inches larger in diameter than the pie pan. Place in pan and refrigerate.
Filling Prep.
Preheat oven to 400 F
Peal core and cut apples, Toss with lemon juice, Beat sour cream, sugar, flour, vanilla extract, salt and egg in a separate bowl.
Add your apples, and toss to coat the apples in the sauce. Place a sheet of foil under dish, cover pie with foil and bake for one hour.
Topping prep, While pie is in the oven
Stir flour, walnuts, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, grated orange peal, and butter. Now blend with fingers until mix resembles coarse crumbs. After pie bakes one hour, add topping, reduce heat to 350 F. and bake for 30 min, until topping bubbles, let cool for one hour after done.
Don't forget to cover the pie with foil before the crust, also make sure your apple slices are a good size. I also used a deep dish pie pan and crust.
