My favorite recipe for Christmas morning!
Combine oats, flour, nuts, sugar, soda & salt. Mix well. Add margerine, mix until dry ingredients are throughly moistened & mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve 1 1/2 cups. Press remaining crumb mixture into bottom of greased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2" jelly roll pan. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes. Melt shortening in heavy sauce pan until warm. Add 1 cup candies, continue cooking over very low heat stirring constantly with metal spoon and pressing candies with back of spoon to break up. Chocolate mixture will be almost melted and pieces of color will remain. Remove from heat, stir in condensed milk mixing well. Spread over partially baked crust to within 1/2" of edge. Combine reserved crumb mixture & remaining candies. Sprinkle evenly over chocolate mixture pressing in lightly. Continue baking about 20 min. Or until golden brown. Cool throughly. Cut into bars.
