Delicious on a cold winter night with toasted bread and a tossed salad.

"The soup was outstanding. I added an additiinal 3oz of butter, Rothbury Farms Texas Toast (cheese garlic) Croutons and used a 2007 Selbach-Oster Riesling - Kabinett for my wine. I would reccommend a good Gruyere."


Ingredients

Are you making this? 
3 pounds onions; Peeled
4 ounces Butter or margarine
1 1/2 teaspoons Black Pepper; freshly ground
2 tablespoons Paprika
1 Bay leaf
3 quarts Beef stock
1 cup White wine
2 teaspoons Salt; optional

Original recipe makes 6

Servings  

Preparation

Slice onions 1/8 inch thick. Melt butter, place onions in it and cook slowly for 1 1/2 hours. Add Beef stock, white wine and paprika; simmer 2 hours. Salt to taste.

Refrigerate over night. Reheat and serve with croutons and Swiss Cheese.

Most excellent, I played with the receipe a little and substituted Chipolte Chile Powder in lieu of the Paprika. It was excellent.

I would have given this a five, but the directions appear to be mostly missing - when / how do you add the pepper, paprika etc.? I had to wing it and it came out OK.

Who doesn't like French Onion Soup? It's warm and delcious. Make this 24 hours ahead of time and pair with a simple tossed salad for an easy wintertime dinner.
