French Toast, Breakfast

"I find it completely odd, if you go to any local restaurant in Erie PA, their version of 'french toast' is simply to a very light coating of egg only bread and fry it. It drives me up the wall. I rather have scrabbled eggs on toast, please."

12 Thick slices Bread
3 whole Eggs
1 1/3 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg; (optional)
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon Salt
1 1/2 teaspoon Brown sugar; or vanilla sugar
2 tablespoon Butter; for pan

Original recipe makes 6

1.Combine and beat together egg, sugar, milk, salt, desired spices, and vanilla.

2. Heat a lightly buttered griddle or skillet over medium-high.

3. Dunk each slice of bread in egg mixture, soaking both sides.

4. Place in skillet or griddle and cook on both sides until golden.

Serve hot with:

Pure Maple Syrup

or Powdered Sugar

or Favorite Jam

The brown sugar makes this recipe. Awesome french toast recipe, highly recommend the powdered sugar.

This recipe is really good.. The nutmeg was a little over powering, next time I will use less, other than that, this is a really good recipe.

This is my favorite french toast recipe ....minus nutmeg with a little extra brown sugar. Made both regular-sliced white bread and raisin bread. Enjoyed by everyone.
