This is my maternal grandmother's recipe for chili. It's not hot, but very flavorful and extremely easy to make!

"My husband and I really enjoyed it. I followed the recipe exactly except for the diced tomatoes. I used the rotel diced tomatoes as someone else suggested in the reviews and it was really good. It actually tasted the best on day three when we took it to work for lunch. I will definetly make this recipe again. Oh also i did not include the cayenne because I added the rotel tomatoes."

Are you making this?
1 pound ground beef; (ground chuck preferred)
1 cup onion; (about 1 medium) chopped
3 cloves garlic; (up to 4 cloves), minced
1 cup bell pepper; green or red (about 1 large) chopped
1 28-oz can diced tomatoes; (or two 14 oz cans)
1 can (8 oz) Tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder; more or less to taste
1 teaspoon table salt
1/4 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon Paprika
1/2 teaspoon Cumin
1 15.5-oz can kidney beans; drained and rinsed

Original recipe makes 4

Cook and stir ground beef, onion, garlic, and bell pepper in large dutch oven or stew pot set over medium-high heat until meat is brown and vegetables are tender. Drain off fat. Stir in remaining ingredients except beans and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Stir in beans; heat through.

Serve immediately or refrigerate for 24 hours to allow the flavors to develop more. Serve with cornbread and bread -n- butter pickles, or top with your favorite chili toppings.

Makes 4 servings.

This is also an easy recipe to add to or change. You can add new ingredients, i.e. a small can of diced green chilis, a half stalk of diced celery, or change the type of beans, or turn up the heat by changing the chili powder to a hotter chili powder, or adding some crushed red pepper, or using more cayenne pepper.

I need to say also. This is on of the best recipes I ever made of chili. My wife loved it and while I don't like spicy this was really good

My husband and I really enjoy this one to base our chili mix off of. We did change some things to the actual recipe as a whole, though: We recently added jalapeno rounds to the beef while browning and the flavor infused into the meat was amazing. Also used some smoked paprika with regular. Lastly, we use tomato juice instead of sauce/tomatoes. Chili mix is great though. YUM!

Very good recipe! Tweaked it a bit - I like adding Rotel tomatoes - actually added in addition to what was in the recipe. No Cayenne or Paprika, adjusted the chili powder. Family loved it. Thanks!
