NOTES : The deep, complex flavor comes from Guinness stout. If you cant find Guinness, substitute another band of stout.This recipe also calls for maple syrup. The best kind to use is the dark amber kind, if you can find it. Make sure you use real maple syrup, no matter what color you choose. A ploughmans lunch is traditional pub fare throughout England. you can serve your own at home. Arrange a thick slab of Cheddar cheese, pickles, chutney, and a slice or two of this bread on this plate. Wash it down with a pint of stout.
