Sift together first 4 ingredients in a large bowl. Cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles small peas. Stir in the buttermilk with a fork until it forms a ball.
Turn the dough out onto a well-floured sheet of wax paper. Sprinkle the dough with flour, and flatten it ito a disk. Cover and chill for 15 minutes.
Remove the wax paper and turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface; sprinkle with flour. Pat the dough 1/2" thickness. Cut with a 3" biscuit cutter, reshaping scraps once. Place the biscuits 1" apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake at 450 for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. IMMEDIATELY, brush with butter.
