Suggest a better descriptionMake a basic white sauce and add 1 1/2 cups of grated Cheddar cheese. Season it with a sprinkling of black and cayenne peppers. Toast 4 to 8 slices of bread (1 or 2 per person). Lay the toast in a large, shallow baking dish. Top each piece with a thin slice of turkey or chicken, a generous spreading of sauce, a large slice of country ham, or pieces of cooked bacon, a large slice of fresh tomato, more cheese sauce to cover it all, and a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese or paprika, or both. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 min., then turn up to broil just long enough to make sandwiches hot and golden brown. Serve with knife and fork. You cant pick up with your hands!
