Irish Soda Bread (from Grandma McD)

A family favorite


4 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup margarine
2 cups seedless raisins
1 1/3 cups buttermilk; use fresh with a tbsp. vinegar
1 egg
1 tsp soda
1 tbsp caraway seeds; (optional)

Original recipe makes 9



Sift floour sugar, salt and baking powder.

Cut in margarine until it resembles coarse cornmeal.

Stir in raisins, (or cranberries!).

Combine buttermilk, egg and soda and stir buttermilk mixture into flour mixture until just moistened.

Bake in greased pan at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes until golden brown
