This is a nice kid friendly macaroni and cheese recipe that they can make with just a little help from an adult. This creamy stovetop version of classic macaroni and cheese is just as quick to fix as the boxed variety. Instead of cheese powder, you use American cheese single slices, which instantly melt into a tasty sauce.
Heat a large saucepan of lightly salted water to a boil. Add elbow pasta and cook according to package directions until tender, about 7 to 8 minutes. Drain well.
Kids: While the pasta elbows are cooking, you can help out by unwrapping the cheese slices. Then tear them up into small pieces so they melt faster when you add them to the pot.
Add the milk and the oil to the saucepan. Place over low heat. Return the elbows to the pan along with the cheese. Stir until the cheese melts and a creamy sauce is formed, about 1 minute. Serve at once.
